August 2009:
NOTE: the prices on this page are out of date and will be revised soon.

Parents - you should find all of the information that you need to know about how our beaver colony will run, where we meet, where you can get the beaver uniform from & how much it will cost in this section of our site. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Beaver scouts wear a simple uniform. It can be bought from outdoors online at www.outdoors.ltd.uk, Mains of Haddington have it or you could try and get a second hand one. The cost of a new beaver sweatshirt is £9.00.
The necker should be Royal Blue and the woggle is maroon in colour.  We can sell you woggles for 15p but we do not stock of any other Beaver items.

After the beaver scout has been with us for 4 weeks they will have their investiture. This is fairly straightforward and the beaver should have their uniform at this stage. Your beaver scout will make their promise and join the scout family.

The beaver scout promise is - "I promise to do my best, to be kind and helpful and love god". The beaver scout motto is "fun & friends" which describes our aims. Through their time in the beaver colony your child will learn about themselves, others in the community & the wider world as well as technology & science.

Boy and Girl Beaver We will follow a programme which has themes. They are as follows:
Programme zones split the whole programme into manageable areas. Each zone represents a different development area in a young person's life. There are five programme zones in beaver scouting. They are:

  • Getting to know other people
  • Learning about yourself
  • Exploring the world around us
  • Discovering creativity and practical skills
  • Discovering beliefs and attitudes

Term Fees

Payment in full is required for Invested Beavers on the first night of each term.

Making payments - £15 per term - payable August, January and April

New Beavers will pay £1 per week for the first 4 weeks to be sure that they want to join us.  After the 4 weeks £8.50 will be payable.

We would be grateful if any payments, whether they are by cash or cheque - made payable to "1st Dunbar Beaver Scout Colony" - are placed in a sealed envelope with details of what dates the payment is for and who it is from. An adult should always give the payment to one of the leaders and get a receipt. Under no circumstances should your Beaver Scout be given the money to hand over. Payment is requested on the 1st week of each term.

This money helps to cover:

  • Annual fees to district, county and national bodies for insurance and leader training.
  • A small amount of the subs are kept by the group to cover running costs such as electric and water bills and the purchasing of equipment.
  • Badges.
  • Equipment needed for pack meetings.

Leaders

  • TBC

You can contact us by email.

Two beaver boysPlease remember that the leaders are volunteers. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us - as we all have young families we would appreciate it if you did not phone us after 7pm or at weekends.

If you are interested in helping out with the colony, or doing something else to help the group, please let us know. There are no payments for being a leader or helper but what you get out of it is much better than that - seeing the children having fun and enjoying themselves.

There will be a parent/carer rota and all parents/carers will be expected to take their turn. The leaders will set up a rota but the parents/carers will have to arrange swaps etc amongst them as the leaders don't have the time spare. The rota you'll be given will list the child's name and the parent telephone number.

Previous experience has shown that your beaver scout gets a lot out of their parent/carer being the help[er. They are normally very chuffed and excited that week! Who could blame them?

Your youngster expects you to be interested and will get a lot more out of scouting if you are prepared to offer your support. There are lots of ways in which you can help, for example:

  • Offering a skill or hobby to train or test a beaver scout for awards and badges
  • Helping prepare refreshments for a group or colony event
  • Helping transport beaver scouts to events and outings
  • Supporting the colony by helping to raise funds

Please do not be shy to offer your help and if you feel you have any skills to offer the beaver scout colony please contact us.

Many thanks
